SUMMARY:Why Efforts to Control Worry & Anxiety Fail: Invite it\, Don’t Fight It
DESCRIPTION:This event is for 1.5 hours of CEUs for LPCs\, LMFTs\, and LCSWs \nWorry affects nearly everyone and is transdiagnostic. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is one of the most common comorbid conditions and puts clients at risk for depression\, more serious anxiety disorders and contributes to a multitude of medical problems.  \nUnderstand how fighting anxiety fuels it and that learning ways to catch worry spirals are the keys to being relaxed. Learn several safe and effective coping strategies in this interactive presentation. Experience simple and practical solutions for overcoming anxiety at work and home. Create new habits that will significantly improve mental and physical health. The best news is that these tools are designed to take little or no time out of busy schedules.  \nLearning Objectives: \nLearn why it is critical to treat worry even when it doesn’t appear to be the main issue \nLearn to break the worry habit by nipping the anxiety spiral in the bud!  \nUnderstand how to use active relaxation (applied relaxation) to maintain a relatively calm state.  \nUtilize four ways to trick anxiety by inviting it instead of fighting it.\nUnderstand why positive thinking often doesn’t work and what to do about it. \nSpeaker Bio: International speaker Dr Jennifer L. Abel has engaged over 300 audiences in 47 states. Her expertise in anxiety and worry includes 30 years of clinical experience as a psychologist. The author of three books\, her latest\, The Anxiety\, Worry\, and Depression Workbook\, is a best-seller. Her therapy decks\, including Melt Worry & Relax Card Deck\, are also very popular. Fun Facts: Jennifer is a musician\, song-writer\, and studio artist. During the pandemic she performed as a pianist/vocalist in over 20 free outdoor concerts in a jazz/pop trio.

SUMMARY:Transformational Storytelling
DESCRIPTION:Francesca Ferrentelli\, PhD\, LPC\, BCC is a Jungian influenced therapist in private practice. She is a certified EMDR therapy clinician and has been a therapist for nearly thirty years. In her practice she specializes in trauma\, addictions\, eating disorders\, and adult children of alcoholics. She earned a Master’s Degree in Professional Psychology from Lindenwood University in 1993\, and a Doctorate in Mythological Studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2003. She is the author of The Zebra and the Black Pony\, a children’s book that can be used for Transformational Storytelling. \nAbout the Presentation \n1 Credit-Free to Psychotherapy Saint Louis Members-$15 for Guests \nStories and storytellers have been around for thousands of years. Powerful stories allow us become engrossed in the drama of the narrative. We can relate to the characters but they are separate from us. This layer of separation breaks through defenses and helps people see things from a different perspective. Transformational storytelling uses the power of story to move the participants. It can be done individually or in groups. The Zebra and the Black Pony was written for transformational storytelling. Francesca will tell the story and teach the participants how to use this technique. She learned this technique from Michael Meade\, (the noted mythologist and storyteller) during her studies at Pacifica Graduate Institute.
