Understanding and Treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Instructor: Jeremy Shuman, PsyD
Event Information
Event Description:
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often missed in differential diagnosis of new psychotherapy patients, and evidence based treatment for OCD is a scarce resource. This presentation is for clinicians with some experience in the treatment of anxiety disorders, and it will provide an overview of the heterogenous set of symptoms seen in OCD, the upstream processes that result in the observed symptoms, and recommendations for following evidence based practice in treating OCD. The emphases will be on recognizing OCD in less obvious cases, conceptualizing complex cases with the inclusion of OC processes, and treatment of OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention along with meta-cognitive therapies.
