Ethical Considerations for Closing an Independent Psychology Practice- Robert L. Lewis, Ph.D.
Bob is a licensed psychologist, the grandfather of three, the father of two and the husband of the love of his life of 52 years.
He earned his Ph.D. from St. Louis University and is a graduate of the Menninger Program in Marriage and Family Therapy. He was on the faculty of this program from 1987-2001. He had a private practice seeing individuals, couples and families for 41 years, but has worked as a psychologist for 46 years, having previously worked for the St. Louis County Family Mental Health Services as well a local Employee Assistance Program.
He retired from his practice Sept. 1, 2022.
Bob was also a community supervisor for graduate students in clinical psychology at Washington University for 30 years. He also taught courses at Washington University and Maryville University, in addition to giving numerous talks and workshops and providing community consultation through the years.
Bob will share with you the “retirement tasks” of closing his practice with ethical considerations for client privacy and welfare. He will include not only the logistics and planning of this process, but also the emotional and personal responses to acknowledge in closing a clinical practice and career. There will be ample time for questions and sharing.
Even though he is only in his 9th month of retirement, he is loving the freedom and flexibility, as well as new passions of this current life chapter.
PSTL will plan to provide bagged lunches.
